This book goes into he lives of four famous women athletes including Amy Van Dyke, Gail Devers, Dominique Moceanu, And Rebecca Lobo. First is Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyke and her life long struggle with asthma. As a child she had trouble breathing after very limited exercise and doctors told her that swimming could help with her asthma. She began to swim but could only complete about half of a race before having to stop and catch her breath. High school was rough for amy as she faced criticism for being six feet tall and coughing all the time due to her asthma, teammates would try to get her to quit by spitting at her an throwing he clothes in the pool. But Amy was stubborn and fought her way all the way to the 1990 junior nationals. She barely missed the 1992 olympic team and became depressed and even quit swimming for a few months. She fought back and trained harder than ever and received a bronze medal in the 1994 world championships. During the 1996 olympics she won four gold medals, Becoming the only american woman to do so.

The next journey is the life of gymnast Dominique Moceanu and how she trained with her dream coach. Dominique parents were both gymnasts so a life as a gymnast was all but certain for her. By 1992 her training has paid off as she becomes the youngest athlete to ever make the U.S junior gymnastic team. in 1994 she won the junior gymnastic championship and in 1995 at the age of thirteen, she becomes the youngest Women's national gymnast competition winner. During the 1996 olympics her and her team take gold, they call themselves the "magnificent seven".

The next athlete is Rebecca Lobo and her struggle with people understanding that she just wanted to play basketball and not act like the typical girl. Everyone but her family judged Rebecca for being so tall and not going out places but most of all they judged her for dressing like a boy and playing sports with all the boys. fast forward to her second year of college at the University of Connecticut when she is debating quoting after two poor seasons and a coach who doesn't believe in her. By her senior year she finds out what the coach wants and delivers, she leads the team to an undefeated season her senior year and win the 1995 national championship. Rebecca is the only player in her conference to have over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. her and her team won the 1996 olympic gold medal and she has made women's basketball a more popular sport single handedly.

The last athlete mentioned is track star Gail Devers and her fight with Graves' disease that nearly took her feet and career away. she began feeling sick and eventually couldn't walk. It took more than 13 doctors to figure out that she had Graves' disease and start to treat it. The radiations treatments did not help, in fact to made things worst, sh began to have large sores on her feet and bleed profusely after running. Days before the doctors would have to amputate her feet, the doctors discovered that the treatments were burning her feet and were able to save her feet and continue a different treatment. within the same year she fought back to win silver at the world championships in the 100 meter hurdles. during the 1992 Olympics, gail wins the gold medal in the 100 meter dash in what sportswriters call the greatest comeback in sports history.

These stories of women athletes serve as not only a lesson for young girls trying to pursue their dream but for anyone facing an obstacle in their way. This book can easily be read to a class and will help athletes, girls, and boys the opportunity to gain hope in their fight for greatness in whatever passion they have.
